What does the name "DOGGRELL" mean ?

There are 2 explanations given by the standard English Dictionary:

1) A Doggrell is the metal ring around an old wooden barrel (see the picture below)

2) A Doggrell is bad poetry ... a crudely or irregularly fashioned verse, often of a humorous or burlesque nature
